“We need something to do
when the partys thru!”
The Captains birthday has come around again. Must be a yearly occurrence.
So what to do this year?
last year we saw Pseudo Echo & Wa Wa Nee at the Chelsea Heights (SEE REVIEW HERE)
so needed that “80s fix” But wait, my 80s spies (well Frankie basically) are telling us that the
ABSOLUTELY 80s are in town.

So off to the South Side Six …er Sandbelt in the lovely factory area of Moorabbin we trot!
We got the whole CDU crew on board, until Betty had to go on “Band Camp” to train for the under 21 Cadbury Flake pole dancing dive of South Yarra, however we were able to sub Betty with no other than Chryssie De-Vinyl and Pete Viscous for the evening.

yes, We love Chryssie – but that bad Pete Viscous just appears!
The gang, surrounded by our groupies (OK, Captains Paid friends) had a meal prior at the pub. It was certainly no Swagman, with the slowest served meals and with the floor show replaced by poker machine jackpot noises in the background.

But we persisted, eventually ate, moved to the front of stage and we were ready:
The Absolutely 80s had arrived!
Paul Kelly

Ex – Models, a fav of ours. Great performance and Foxy is a big fan of “Evolution”
but here is “Out of mind out of sight!”
Scott Carne

Ex “Kids in the Kitchen” He continues to “shine” with a great voice and show, keep em coming!
“Current Stand” from Countdown
Fred Loneragan and Bass player Nero Swan from “Machinations”

They still got it. Great to see Fred on stage, lots of energy, and Nero with some fantastic bass playing. I had forgotten what a funky sound they had.
“You got no say in it”
“PS “No say in it” was my test tape as a trainee Av technician in the 80s! The tape still exists in my “box of tapes to one day transfer to computer”!
Brian Mannix – of Uncanny X-men

More energy in one night that I have had in 10 years. Still funny, still bounces across the stage, still has the ladies a screaming!
P.S. Brian, We LOVE Pakistan: May not be PC, but we love it!
“Work”
And of course a great time had by the CDU crew!

And Captain had the audience doing new “moves” to Barbados during Sean Kelly’s song!
Not to be outdone, Foxy and Freddy got a crowd around them after the show when doing “Video killed the radio Star”!
Luckily the “Captain” was not as untidy as per last years Pseudo echo gig and refrained from taking or using Zinc cream!

“tied and emotional” quoted the publicist!
The Highlight for me was meeting the band AND presenting Brian and Scott with “Cleavagedownunder” dog tags!

And thanks to Scott, Frankie and Floren for the T-shirt!
So as we get ready for a July 10th gig, (More soon) We thank the one’s that gave our act the inspiration to “salute” the 80s!
Thanks Scott, Brian, Sean and Fred. A great night was had by all!

Howdi mate…. I think you need a eighties mullet for your next hairdo just like Brians! Be careful of getting the Auspicious “Sean” mixed up with the other Kelly of the music world…. I thought Sean was really awesome!
Great pics thanks for sharing! Pete Vicious and I left our eyeliners at home – these are rare pics….
Love Chrissy De Vinyl…
