The History and promotional video

Click on this below (rate and vote on youtube)  for the 4 minute introductions of the band members:

We continue trace the history (in a very Melbourne way) and reminisce on what it was that made these very “glam” or “pop” songs appeal to us in the 70’s & 80’s.

Keep the suggestions rolling in. At the end of the post click on comments on the bottom of the page and let us know here at CDU! Take poll here…>

Hope this Christmas will be everything you want it to be.

3xy

The Wish list for the band for this Xmas is as follows:

  • The Captain wants dozen frozen “Sunny Boys”& some VFL football cards,

  • Foxy is begging for a pair of “Faberge” jeans & “Bobbles” for her hair.

  • Freddie now wants  CD version best of Village People (did not know there was a best of) as he wore out his LP,

  • Betty’s up for a new computer -  a Commodore 64 and a bottle of 4711 from Freddie, (how romantic) and

  • Chryssie if we can find her. wants a bottle of Brandivino that she can sneak into our gig for “pre nerve medication” purposes (CHILDREN THIS IS BAD NEVER COPY US!) mainly as Pete Viscious is hanging around again and

  • Roger is getting a Cabbage Patch Doll, but due to a delivery muck up, will not be available till March or April.

  • Terry Towelling is after frequent flyer card for the bail money he is seeming to be forking out too regularly!

  • Mike Stand Michaelson is shopping for crutches for Miss Mike Stand!

  • Pete might get a “visit” from our Chryssie, and

  • Roadies Rhino-Tripod and Grip Boy, of course got gaffa tape.

This week’s “re-review”  it is all “youtube” based around

Literal Film Clips.

Remember the collars, the mullets and sappy pop clips that made no sense whatsoever?

Well, people with too much spare time on Youtube, have re-hashed a few of the favorites from the 80’s(70s & 60′s) have been re-mastered to suit what actually occurs in the film clip.

Really – some people have too much time, but it allows us to laugh

NEW ADDITIONS FOR 2009!

AIR SUPPLY:

Some good Aussies getting the parody treatment (And sorry, because they do the Readers Digest Ads in the States, boys you have to wear this!)

But a funny parody anyway!  And LOVE his hair!

What about some “Total Eclipse of the Heart”

Bonnie Tyler

While I think that Bonnie is a spunk (And I will shortly add her to the best spunks of the 80s – click here shortly for the current list) the film clip in hindsight leaves a bit to be desired.  A great song, but what is it with the school boys!  And the possessed eyes.  But like the Tears for Fears clip a few down the list from here, the 80s DID NOT have to make sense!

BONNIE TYLER

How about some “Rick-Rolling”

rickastley22

Some person about 18 months ago (you know, the same one who wet their beds and torture cute little kittens) started up the “prank” of Rick Rolling. This is where you get directed into a site just to be “tortured” with “never going to give you up.” never one of my fav’s, but many millions around he world are now familiar with it, from Ball park games in the USA t news readers, they have been “Rick Rolled” Click here for MANY examples:

But someone has re-mastered the song to suit the film clip. Look the singing is no “Young Talent Time or Gong Show” winner, but funny none the less.

Click below:

Now, leave poor Rick alone, he is a serious performer……….

Then we have had have again  “Take on Me” by A-Ha

If we ever get motivated, I will post the top 10 clips of the 70’s 80’s and this will be one of them. One of Foxy’s fav’s and Even interviewed by Mr “J” of Box Hill (one of our 7 fans) A-Ha made a fantastic clip which had it all. Boys with “spunky” hair”, a blonde bimbo, drama, violence, animation, sketch, even a fat armed tuckshop lady!  And the news that they are breaking up this year! I even remembered when they toured OZ and I could not get my A/V delivery truck into the Hilton hotel’s loading bay due to teens! (showing age now!)

Which makes this clip perfect for a literal tanslation: However, the version has been taken off Youtube as “copywright” as been lodged against the maker. I thought Parody was fair game. No wonder people continue to download. No sense of humor! but I digress. Basically cant show you it! Sorry. Blame the record company! NEWS: From the creator DustoMcNeato: Wow, so this video was disabled on Dec. 30, 2008 after being up for only 2 months and after reaching 2.3 million views. It seems to be back up as of Aug 27 2009. (Also as of today, the un-official version which was not taken down for some reason is up to 1,656,633 views, so that’s just shy of 4 million)

PS:  His website is: http://www.dustfilms.com/literalvideos

Daydream believer – Monkees

Yes, the 80s was not the only decade with weirdo clips.  here a great example with the Monkees (also a noted Mime band – see there IS precedent!)

“Tears for Fears”

Yes, this 80′s duo were not exempt from this parody. But they take it how it was MEANT as this video is linked from the “Tears for Fears” webpage

But VERY VERY Funny!

Even more:

U2

finding they are not exempt with “I still haven’t found what I am looking for!

Again, singing not that flash, but the idea and parody is!

George Michael: (TOURING 2010 – get your Gold Amex out for tickets!)

Penny Lane – The Beatles

Even – dare I say it Melthoid and other purists out there!  Not a bad parody.

Safety Dance- Men without Hats

What were they thinking then – and now!  This is more accurate I guess!

So, there are heaps out there,as out of room, but the list can include :Billy Idol, Eurythmics,  Pat Benatar, Radio head, and many others. But I will finish off with this “Aussie feel” parody/literal song- Well Aussie Song –

Natalie Imbrigula

with “Torn” Literately translated, and shows that we have a SENSE OF HUMOR when we are Aussie’s!: Hope everyone has on NYE! OR we are in BIG trouble!

And she is definitely a SPUNK!

P.S. Do you think harry Connick Jr would appreciate a Literal Version of say, The Big Parade, or do you think he would cry again!  See we CAN take a joke in Australia!

Hope to see you all soon. leave a comment on YouTube for the Bands efforts.  And spread the word  See our Band hire page and enqs page – click here

BIG thanks and full credit to the YouTube posters, especially the main “literal clips inventors” dustomcneato AND copyrighthater especially but all songs owned by the original musicians and writers. parody only. Not to be taken before driving or operating heavy machinery – hopefully that is enough warnings!

Vale Eartha Kitt: Cat Woman – Passed Away Xmas Day 2008.

Next review will probably be on the amount of deaths in the industry this year!
